Puncheston, Pembrokeshire

Historical Description

Puncheston, a parish in Pembrokeshire, on the river Cleddau, under the Precelly Mountains, 6½ miles SE of Fish-guard, and 7 NNWof Clarbeston Road station on the G.W.R. Post town, Fishguard (R.S.O.) Acreage, 1788; population, 215. Traces of an ancient camp are at Castell Mael. The living is a rectory in the diocese of St David's, and was annexed in 1868 to the rectory of Llanychaer; joint gross value, £280 with residence. Gambold, author of a " Welsh and Latin Dictionary," was rector. A fair is held on the second Monday after 22 Nov.
