Ynishir or Ynyshir, Glamorgan

Historical Description

Ynishir or Ynyshir, an ecclesiastical parish in Llanwonno and Ystradyfodwg parishes, Glamorgan, 4½ miles NW of Pontypridd. It has a station on the Rhondda branch of the Taff Vale railway, and a post, money order, and telegraph office under Forth (R.S.O.) It was constituted in 1888. The population in 1891 was 5081; in 1896 it was estimated to have increased to at least 10,000. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Llandaff; net value, £100. Patron, the Bishop of Llandaff. The church is dedicated to St Ann.
