The Ogmore, Glamorgan

Historical Description

Ogmore, The, a river of Glamorgan, rising in several head-streams in the central parts of the county among mountains with extreme altitude of 1859 feet, running southward to Bridgend and south-westward thence to the Bristol Channel, 6 miles NW of Nash Point, and making altogether a run of about 16 miles. It is joined by the Ogwrfach, the Garw, the Llynvi, and the Rwenny; it forms a small estuary over the last 1½ mile of its run; and it has always been famed for the excellence of its salmon, insomuch that its very name signifies " salmon water."
