Southerndown, Glamorgan
Historical Description
Southerndown, a hamlet in St Brides Major parish, Glamorgan, on the coast, 5 miles SSW of Bridgend. It is a watering-place, and has a post, money order, and telegraph office under Bridgend. The coast is chiefly a range of limestone cliff about 300 feet high, shows the limestone in horizontal strata with peculiar appearance, is pierced with several deep caves, and abounds in fossils. There is a Church of England mission room. Dunraven Castle, situated on a rocky promontory, is separately noticed.
