Huish (St. James)
HUISH (St. James), a parish, in the union of Torrington, hundred of Shebbear, Black Torrington and Shebbear, and N. divisions of Devon, 5½ miles (N.) from Hatherleigh; containing 141 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, valued in the king's books at £7. 19. 10., and in the gift of Lord Clinton: the tithes have been commuted for £117, and the glebe comprises 63 acres. Pipe-clay and potters'-clay are found.
