Sydling St. Nicholas

SYDLING St. NICHOLAS, a village 8 miles N.W. from Dorchester, and 2½ S.W. from Cerne Abbas. The church is dedicated to St. Nicholas, and the living is a vicarage. Here is a small chapel for Independents, and another for Wesleyans, and an endowed free school. The parish, with Upper Sydling, comprises 4080 acres, and had in 1841 a population of 615. Post-office at John Hollier's, Letters arrive at 8 a.m. and are despatched at 5 p.m.
