Maiden Newton

MAIDEN NEWTON, a large village in Dorchester union and Tollerford hundred 8¼ miles N.W. from Dorchester and 9 S.E. from Beaminster. The parish church is an ancient structure, having a square tower; besides this there is a chapel for Independents and a Free School. In 1841 the population was returned at 729. Post Office at Jesse Hodges. Letters are delivered at 9 a.m., and are despatched at 6 p.m.
