BROADMAYNE. a village 4 miles S.E.S. from Dorchester and 9 N.E. from Weymouth. About the centre of the village stands the church, a neat edifice, having a tower mantled with ivy, the living is a rectory annexed to West Knighton, there is in the village a parochial school. The parish, which is noted for producing excellent bricks and tiles, comprises 2540 acres, and had in 1841 a population of 490.
