Surrey

SURREY is a metropolitan county and derives its name from having formed a southern district of the Thames; it is an inland shire, on the south bank of the Thames, having communication with the sea by means of that river. The county is of moderate size, and is bounded on the north by the Thames, between Fulham and Windsor (Berks), the County of London becoming the northern boundary of Surrey for a short distance, which after that has Kent on the east, Sussex on the south, Hampshire on the west, and Berkshire and a point of Buckinghamshire on the north-west.
Transcribed from Kelly's Directory of Kent, Surrey, and Sussex, 1913
