Leighfield
LEIGHFIELD, formerly extra-parochial, is now a parish, on the western borders of Rutland, by Leicestershire, and near the source of the river Chater, which runs through the parish; it is 2½ miles west from Manton station and 3½ south-west from Oakham station, both on the Syston and Peterborough branch of the London, Midland and Scottish railway, and 4½ north-west from Uppingham, in the union and county court district of Oakham and hundred of Oakham Soke. The inhabitants attend the churches at Ridlington, Belton and Braunstone. W. H. M. Finch esq. J.P. who is lord of the manor, and the Earl of Ancaster T.D. are the chief landowners. The soil is clayey; subsoil, clay. The land is almost entirely pasture. The area is 2,358 acres; the population in 1921 was 32.
