Crosslee, Renfrewshire

Historical Description

CROSSLEE, a village, in the parish of HOUSTON, Upper ward of the county of RENFREW, ½ a mile (S. by E.) from Houston, containing 711 inhabitants. This village lies in the southernmost extremity of the parish, and on the banks of the Gryfe water, which is here very devious in its course. It is a seat of the cotton manufacture, and there is an extensive mill, which employs a great part of the population. In the vicinity is Crosslee House. A school has been established for the use of the work-people and their children.
