Sawbridgeworth (St. Michael)

SAWBRIDGEWORTH (St. Michael), a parish, in the union of Bishop-Stortford, hundred of Braughin, county of Hertford, 11½ miles (E. by N.) from Hertford; containing 2394 inhabitants. The Eastern-Counties railway crosses the river Stort near this place. The living is a vicarage, valued in the king's books at £17; patron, the Bishop of London; appropriators, the Dean and Chapter of Westminster. The great tithes have been commuted for £1479. 12., and the vicarial for £391; the appropriate glebe comprises 128 acres. There are places of worship for Independents and Wesleyans.
