Newton-Cap

NEWTON-CAP, a township, in the parish of St. Andrew Auckland, union of Auckland, N. W. division of Darlington ward, S. division of the county of Durham, ½ a mile (N. W.) from the town of Bishop-Auckland; containing 148 inhabitants. It is situated on the Wear, which is here crossed by a bridge, and on the north bank of which are the ruins of an unfinished mansion erected by the Bacon family.
