Chart, or Churt

CHART, or Churt, a tything, in the parish of Frensham, hundred of Farnham, W. division of Surrey, 5ΒΌ miles (N. W.) from Haslemere; containing 432 inhabitants. A manufactory for coarse earthenware is carried on to a limited extent. A chapel was erected in 1838, by subscription, aided by a grant from the Pastoral Aid Society: the chaplain is appointed by the incumbent of Frensham, and his stipend is paid by the society.
