Balne

BALNE, a township, in the parish of Snaith, Lower division of the wapentake of Osgoldcross, W. riding of York, 5ΒΌ miles (S. W. by W.) from Snaith; containing 341 inhabitants. It comprises by computation 2750 acres, of which about 115 are woodland; the soil is chiefly of a sandy nature. The village, which is scattered, lies to the south of the Knottingley and Goole canal. The Wesleyans and Primitive Methodists have each a place of worship.
