Bracon-Ash (St. Nicholas)

BRACON-ASH (St. Nicholas), a parish, in the union of Henstead, hundred of Humbleyard, E. division of Norfolk, 6 miles (S. W.) from Norwich; containing 293 inhabitants. The road from Buckenham to Norwich intersects the parish. The living is a rectory, valued in the king's books at £10, and in the patronage of the family of Berney; net income, £245. The church is partly in the early and partly in the decorated style, and consists of a nave, chancel, and south aisle, with a mausoleum on the north side belonging to the Berney family. Lord Thurlow was born at the old Hall in 1730.
