Birch, Little (St. Mary)

BIRCH, LITTLE (St. Mary), a parish, in the Upper division of the hundred of Wormelow, union and county of Hereford, 6 miles (S.) from Hereford; comprising by admeasurement 935 acres, and containing 375 inhabitants. Free sandstone of good quality is raised in considerable quantities. The living is a discharged vicarage, valued in the king's books at £6. 12. 11., and in the gift of Guy's Hospital, London: the tithes have been commuted for £160, and the glebe consists of 14 acres. The church has been just rebuilt on an enlarged plan, with stone supplied from quarries within the parish.
