Batcombe (St. Mary)

BATCOMBE (St. Mary), a parish, in the union of Shepton-Mallet, hundred of Whitestone, E. division of Somerset, 3 miles (N. by E.) from Bruton; containing 780 inhabitants. It comprises by measurement 3170 acres, of which 670 are arable. The living is a rectory, with the perpetual curacy of Upton-Noble annexed, valued in the king's books at £26. 14. 4½.; net income, £690; patron and incumbent, the Rev. J. Browne. There is a place of worship for Wesleyans.
