Arras

ARRAS, a hamlet, in the parish of Market-Weighton, union of Pocklington, Holme-Beacon division of the wapentake of Harthill, E. riding of York, 3 miles (E.) from Market-Weighton. The hamlet is situated on the Wolds, and on the road from Market-Weighton to Beverley. It is supposed there was a village here during the conflicts of the Saxons and Danes, if not at the time of the Romans, as the foundations of buildings have been discovered in a field, as have also fragments of chariot wheels, and the heads of arrows.

Transcribed from A Topographical Dictionary of England, by Samuel Lewis, seventh edition, published 1858.
