Latton, Wiltshire
Historical Description
Latton, a parish, with a village, in Wiltshire, on the Thames and Severn Canal, adjacent to Gloucestershire, 1 mile N by W of Cricklade station on the Midland and Southwestern Junction railway. Post town, Cricklade. Acreage, 1798; population of the civil parish, 218; of the ecclesiastical, 346. The property belongs to the Earl of St Germans. A .Roman pavement, a coffin, and some Roman coins were discovered some years ago, and there is a very ancient stone cross. The living is a vicarage, united with the vicarage of Eisey, in the diocese of Gloucester and Bristol; gross value, £220 with residence. Patron, the Earl of St Germans. The church, which retains two of its original Norman arches, has a tower of Norman architecture, and has been restored.

St. John the Baptist (parish church)
The church of St. John the Baptist is a building of stone in the Norman and later styles, consisting of modern chancel, nave, transepts, south porch, and an embattled western tower, containing 5 bells: the chancel, arch, tower and south doorway are Norman: in the nave are several memorial windows to members of the Beadon family, and in the chancel are others to the Habgood family: there are 180 sittings.
