Hankerton, a village and a parish in Wiltshire. The village stands 3½ miles NE of Malmesbury station on the G.W.R. It has a post office under Malmesbury; money order and telegraph office, Crudwell. The parish includes also the tithing of Cloatley. Acreage, 2203; population, 335. The manor belongs to the Earl of Suffolk. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Gloucester and Bristol; value, £190 with residence. Patron, the Rector of Crudwell. The church is ancient and good, with a tower.

The church of the Holy Cross is an ancient fabric of stone in the Early English style, consisting of chancel, added in 1906, nave, south porch and a fine and lofty western tower containing 4 bells: there are sittings for 190 persons.
