Historical Description
Stanton, a village and a township in Ellastone parish, Staffordshire, 3½ miles NW of Ashborne. Post town, Ashborne; money order and telegraph office, Church Mayfield. Acreage, 2027; population, 286. The manor belongs to the Earl of Shrewsbury and Talbot Stone is quarried. There is a chapel of ease to Ellastone parish church. Archbishop Sheldon was a native.
