Hilton, Staffordshire
Historical Description
Hilton, a township in Wolverhampton parish, Staffordshire, 2 miles NE of Bushbury station on the L. & N.W.R., and 5 NNE of Wolverhampton. Acreage, 870; population, 64. Hilton Hall, the seat of the lord of the manor, is an ancient mansion which was enlarged and altered in 1830. A small Cistercian abbey was founded here in 1223 by Henry de Andley, and given at the dissolution to the Astons of Tixal.
