Widford, Oxfordshire
Historical Description
Widford, a parish in Oxfordshire, on the N bank of the river Windrush, 1½ mile SE by S of Burford, and 4¾ miles from Shipton station on the Oxford and Wolverhampton section of the G.W.R. Post town and money order and telegraph office, Burford. Acreage, 552; population of the civil parish, 52; of the ecclesiastical, with Swinbrook, 238. The living is a rectory, united with Swinbrook, in the diocese of Oxford; joint gross value, £224 with residence. The church, now disused, is a small but ancient building of stone chiefly in the Decorated style; it occupies the site of a Roman villa.
