Historical Description
Westwell, a parish in Oxfordshire, 2 miles SW of Burford, and 5 NW from Alvescot station on the G.W.R. Post town, Burford, under Faringdon. Acreage, 1445; population, 90. The manor belongs to the Dean and Chapter of Christ Church, Oxford, who are also chief landowners. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Oxford; net value, £114 with residence. Patron, Christ Church, Oxford. The church is a small but ancient building of stone chiefly of the Transition Norman period, consisting of chancel, nave, S porch, and a modern addition to the W end. It has a Norman font and some ancient and interesting tombs and memorials.
