Historical Description

Taynton, a parish in Oxfordshire, 1¾ mile NW by N of Burford, and 5 miles from Shipton station on the G.W.R. Post town, Burford (R.S.O.); money order and telegraph office, Bnrford. Acreage, 2004; population of the civil parish, 260; of the ecclesiastical, 290. The manor belongs to the Wingfield family. Excellent building stone is quarried. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Oxford; gross value, £60 with residence. The church is an ancient building of stone chiefly in the Decorated style, consisting of chancel,.. nave, aisles, N porch, and an embattled western tower.
