Historical Description

Shorthampton with Chilson and Pudlicot, a chapelry and a township in Charlbury parish, Oxfordshire, on the river Evenlode, 2 miles W by N of Charlbury station on the Oxford and Worcester section of the G.W.R. Post town and telegraph office, Charlbury; money order office, Chadlington. Acreage of township, 1678; population, 198. The manor belongs to Lord Churchill. The living is annexed to Charlbury. The church is a plain building of mixed styles, consisting of chancel, nave, S porch, and bell turret. Chilson is a village three-quarters of a mile WSW of the church, and Pudlicot is a hamlet 1½ mile WNW.
