Shenington, Oxfordshire
Historical Description
Shenington, a parish, with a village, in Oxfordshire, on the borders of Warwickshire, 6 miles WNW of Banbury, which is the nearest railway station. It was up to 1837 in the county and diocese ef Gloucester. It has a post office under Banbury; money order and telegraph office, Tysoe. Acreage, 1628; population, 328. There is a parish council consisting of five members and a chairman. The manor belongs to Oriel College, Oxford. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Worcester; net value, £208 with residence. Patron, the Earl of Jersey. The church, which was restored in 1879, is a building of stone in the Decorated and Perpendicular styles. There is a Primitive Methodist chapel.
