Fifield, Oxfordshire
Historical Description
Fifield, a parish in Oxfordshire, on the W verge of the county, 4 miles W of Shipton, 3½ S from Chipping Norton Junction station on the G.W.R., and 4½ N by W of Bnrford. It has a post and money order office under Chipping Norton; telegraph office, Shipton (R.S.) Acreage, 1160; population of the civil parish, 222; of the ecclesiastical, with Idburyyi 441. The living is a rectory, united in 1865 with Idbury; in the diocese of Oxford; gross value, £321 with residence. Patron, the Bishop of Oxford. The church has an Early English chancel, an E window with flowing tracery and, stained glass, and an octagonal tower, with a spire, and is good.
