Historical Description
Skegby, a parish, with a village, in Notts, 3 miles W of Mansfield, and 2 from Sutton station on the M.R. It has a post office under Mansfield; money order office, Stanton Hill; telegraph office, Sutton-in-Ashfield. Acreage, 1467; population, 3120. Limestone is quarried. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Southwell; gross value, £292 with residence. Patron, the Lord Chancellor. The church is Norman, and consists of chancel, nave, aisles, and western tower, and was restored in 1870 There are Wesleyan, Methodist, Free Church, and Baptist chapels.
