Sutton, Norfolk
Historical Description
Sutton, a parish, with a pleasant village, in Norfolk, 10 miles SE of North Walsham, and 1 mile from Stalham and Catfield stations on the Midland and Great Northern Joint railway. It has a post office under Stalham; money order and telegraph office, Stalham. Acreage, 1462 of land and 107 of water; population, 362. About 60 acres are of reeds and sedge, which are used for basket and horse-collar making. There is a parish council consisting of seven members. The manor belongs to the Keith family. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Norwich; net value, £244 with residence. Patron, the Marquis of Abergavenny. The church, which was repaired and new-roofed in 1891, is an ancient building of flint and stone in the Perpendicular style. There is a Primitive Methodist chapel.
