Shropham, Norfolk
Historical Description
Shropham, a village and a parish in Norfolk. The village stands 3 miles NW of Eccles Road station, 3 N from Harling Road station, both on the Thetford and Norwich section of the G.E.R., and 4½ N by W of East Harling. It was once a market-town, and has a post office under Thetford; money order and telegraph office. Great Hockham. The parish comprises 2745 acres, and is in Wayland union; population, 340. There is a parish council consisting of seven members. Shropham Hall is a fine modern mansion standing in a park of about 50 acres. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Norwich; net value, £183 with residence. Patrons, the trustees of the Great Hospital, Norwich. The church is a building of flint in the Perpendicular style, consisting of chancel, nave, N aisle, S porch, and an embattled western tower. There is a Primitive Methodist chapel, and some small charities.
