Shotesham St Mary or Low Shotesham, Norfolk
Historical Description
Shotesham St Mary or Low Shotesham, a parish in Norfolk, 1½ mile SE of Swainsthorpe railway station. Post town, Shotesham, under Norwich; money order and telegraph office, Hempnall. Acreage, 2006; population of the civil parish, 236; of the ecclesiastical, with Shotesham All Saints, 599. The manor, with most of the land and Shotesham Park, a fine modern mansion of white brick standing in a well-timbered park of about 400 acres, belongs to the Fellowes family. The parish comprises the three quondam parishes of Shotesham St Mary, Shotesham St Martin, and Shotesham St Botolph. The living is annexed to that of Shotesham All Saints. The churches of St Martin and St Botolph have long been in ruins, but that of St Mary, which is a small building of flint in the Perpendicular style, was restored in 1881, and is in good condition.
