Historical Description
Hoveton St John, a village and a parish in Norfolk, on the river Bure, 8 miles NE from Norwich. Wroxham Junction station on the G.E.R. is in this parish. Post town, money order, and telegraph office, Wroxham. Acreage, 1374 of land and 219 of water; population, 304. The manor belongs to the Blofeld family. Hoveton House is a mansion of brick, with Grecian pilasters, and stands in a well-wooded park. There is a broad of 123 acres. The living is a vicarage, annexed to the vicarage of Hoveton St Peter, in the diocese of Norwich. The church, which was restored in 1890, is an ancient building of flint in the Gothic style of the 15th century, has a brick tower, and stands on a rising ground. There are four almshouses supported by the lord of the manor.
