Historical Description
Hethel, a village and a parish in Norfolk, 2¼ miles S by W from Hethersett station, 1½ mile N from Ashwellthorpe station on the G.E.R., and 4 miles E by S from Wymond-ham. Post town, Norwich, vid Bracon Ash; money order office, Wreningham; telegraph office, Ashwellthorpe station. Acreage, 1443; population, 149. Hethel Thorne, near the church, is said to be as old as the time of King John. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Norwich; gross yearly value, .6403. The rectory house is moated. The church is an ancient building of flint and brick, and it contains a fine monument to Myles Branthwaite. Hethel Hall is a chief residence.
