Altcar, a parish in Lancashire, on the river Alt, 2 miles SE of Formby station, and 2 from Altcar and Hillhouse station on the Southport and Cheshire Lines Extension railway. It includes the hamlet of Little Altcar. Post town, Formby under Liverpool. Acreage, 4083; population, 599. The surface includes some marsh. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Liverpool; gross value, £240. Patron, the Earl of Sefton. The church is very good.
