Smeeth, Kent
Historical Description
Smeeth, a village and a parish in Kent. The village has a station on the S.E.R., 60 miles from London, and 4½ ESE of Ashford, and a post, money order, and telegraph office under Ashford. The parish contains also the hamlet of Eidgway, and comprises 1620 acres; population, 602. There is a parish council consisting of seven members. Fairs are held on 15 May and 29 Sept. The Paddock is the residence of Lord Brabourne, who is lord of the manor. The living is a rectory; net value, £260 with residence. The church is Norman.
