Historical Description
Preston-next-Faversham, a parish in Kent, on the L.C. & D.R,, at Faversham station, 53 miles from London, and adjoining the town of Faversham. It has a post, money order, and telegraph office under Faversham. Acreage, 1564; population of the civil parish, 2374; of the ecclesiastical, 1143. There is a parish council consisting of nine members. The manor was originally called Coppanstone, was given in the 9th century by King Renulf to Christchurch, Canterbury, and afterwards took the name of Priest's Town or Preston. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Canterbury; net value, £220 with residence. Patron, the Archbishop of Canterbury. The church is Early English, has a small tower, and contains a fine monument of Roger Boyle and some brasses.
PRESTON, NORTH, or THE BRENTS, is a part of the civil parish of Preston-next-Faversham. Bricks are largely manufactured. The church of St John is a building of flint and stone in the Early English style, and was erected in 1881.
