Plaistow, Kent
Historical Description
Plaistow, a chapelry in Bromley parish, Kent, with a station on the S.E.R. 10 miles from London. It was constituted in 1863. Post town, Bromley. Population, 4186. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Canterbury; net value, £300 with residence. Patron, the Archbishop of Canterbury. The church was built in 1864, and is in the Decorated English style. A chancel was added in 1881, and the building was again enlarged in 1890.

St. Mary (parish church)
The church of St. Mary, built in 1863, is of flint with quoins and facings of Bath stone, in the Decorated style, and has a turret containing one bell: the chancel was built in 1881, at a cost of £2,000, and the nave in 1864, at a cost of £4,000: the stained east window was erected in 1884 by Lady Scott and family in memory of Sir E. H. Scott bart. d. 1 Aug. 1883, and there are two others: there are sittings for 550 persons.
