Horton, Buckinghamshire
Historical Description
Horton, a hamlet in Ivinghoe, Eddlesborough, and Slapton parishes, Bucks, half a mile N from the Cheddington Junction station of the L. & N.W.R., and near the Grand Junction Canal, 2½ miles NW from Ivinghoe. Post town, Leighton Buzzard. There is a Wesleyan chapel.

Church of England
St. Michael (parish church)
The parish church of St. Michael is an ancient structure of stone, faced with flint, chiefly in the Norman, Early English and Perpendicular styles, consisting of chancel, nave, south aisle, north porch and an embattled western tower containing a clock and 6 bells, the then existing four being rehung and two new bells added in 1898: there is north doorway of Norman date and a Tudor porch: the east window, erected in 1883, is a memorial to John Milton, the author of "Paradise Lost," who once lived here; Milton's mother, who died in 1637, is buried here, and in the chancel is a flat stone to her memory with this inscription: "Beneath this stone lie the remains of Sarah, the wife of John Milton:" there are memorial windows to the Rev. R. G. Foot. 1876, Annetta Chatry de la Fosse, Edward and Frances Tyrell and Edmond Temple Watson: the church was thoroughly restored in 1875-6, when the south aisle was rebuilt, the church reseated with oak benches an the entrance porch and chapel restored: the church affords 280 sittings.
