Kingsdown (Dartford), Kent
Historical Description
Kingsdown, a parish in Kent, 3 miles SE of Eynesford station on the L.C. and D.R., and 7½ SSE of Dartford. It contains the chapelry of Maplescombe, the manor of Woodland, and the hamlet of Portobello. It has a post, money order, and telegraph office under Sevenoaks. Acreage, 2812; population, 412. The living is a rectory, united with the perpetual curacy of Maplescombe, in the diocese of Rochester; gross value, £380. Patrons, the Dean and Chapter of Rochester. The church comprises nave and chancel, with a porch, and has some fragments of stained glass of the 14th century. There is a Baptist chapel.
