Historical Description
Harrietsham, a village and a parish in Kent. The village stands at the foot of the chalk hills, on the river Len, with a station on the L.C. & D.R, 43 miles from London, and 7 E by S of Maidstone; it was known at Domesday as Hariardesham. There is a post, money order, and telegraph office under Maidstone. Acreage of parish, 2485; population, 718. Stede Hill is a seat in the neighbourhood, and commands a noble view over the Weald. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Canterbury; value, £385 with residence. Patron, All Souls' College, Oxford. The church is Early and Later English with a tower, and contains a remarkable font and monuments of the Baldwins. A chapel of ease was erected in 1881. There are an endowed school, a suite of almshouses, and other charities.
