Challock, Kent

Historical Description

Challock, a parish in Kent, adjacent to the river Stour and to the Ashford and Canterbury railway, 2½ miles NW by W of Wye railway station, and 5 N by E of Ashford, under which it has a post office. Acreage, 2827; population of civil parish, 317; of the ecclesiastical, 378. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Canterbury; net value, £250 with residence. The church is ancient.

St. Cosmos and St. Damian (parish church)

The ancient church of St. Cosmos and St. Damian is of flint and stone, in the Early English and later styles, and has a tower, or Perpendicular date, with 4 bells: the church was restored and reseated in 1891, at a cost of nearly £1,000, and reopened 25 July, 1892: there are 200 sittings.
