Rotherwick, Hampshire

Historical Description

Rotherwick, a parish in Hants. 2½ miles from Hook station on the L. & S.W.R., and 7 NE by E of Basingstoke. It has a post office under Winchfield; money order and telegraph office, Hook. Acreage, 1983; population, 425. There is a parish council consisting of five members. Tylney Hall was the seat of the Tylney family, and was rebuilt in 1879 in the Tudor style. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Winchester; net value, £190 with residence. Patron, the Bishop of Winchester. The church is ancient but good, was enlarged in 1876, and contains a handsome monument to one of the Tylney family.
