East Wellow, Hampshire

Historical Description

Wellow, East, a parish in Hants, 3 miles from Romsey station on the L. & S.W.R. Post town, Romsey. Acreage, 2468; population, 322. There is a parish council consisting of five members. Embley Park is a handsome residence in the neighbourhood, and stands in a park of 100 acres. The living is a vicarage, with West Wellow annexed, in the diocese of Winchester; net value, £150 with residence. The church is an ancient building of flint and stone in the Early English style. There are some fine mural decorations of 13th, 14th, and 15th century dates, in good preservation.
