Historical Description
Stinchcombe, a village and a parish in Gloucestershire, 2 miles WNW of Dursley. There is a post office under Dursley; money order and telegraph office, Dursley. Acreage, 1676; population of the civil parish, 319; of the ecclesiastical, 315. The manor belongs to the baronet family of Prevost. The Manor House, Stancombe Park, and Peers Court are the chief residences. The site of a Roman villa has been discovered near Stancombe Park. Stinchcombe Hill commands an extensive view. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Gloucester and Bristol; gross value, £228 with residence. Patron, the Bishop of Gloucester and Bristol. The church, with the exception of the tower and spire, was rebuilt in 1855.

St. Cyr (parish church)
The church of St. Cyr, partly rebuilt about 1855, is a building of stone, chiefly in the Decorated style, consisting of chancel, nave of four bays, south aisle, north porch and an embattled western tower with spire of Perpendicular date and containing a clock and 6 bells: the south aisle was elected at the sale cost of the Ven. Sir G. Prevost bart. and the Rev. I. Williams B.D.: there are several memorial windows, including two to the Rev Isaac Williams B.D. d. 1 May, 1865, and one to the late Ven. Sir George Prevost bart. rector here 1834-93: there a 247 sittings.
