Historical Description
Westerton, a township in Auckland St Andrew parish, Durham, 2½ miles E by N of Bishop Auckland, and 1 mile from Coundon station on the N.E.R. Post town, Bishop Auckland; money order and telegraph office, Coundon. Acreage, 699; population, 495. The Ecclesiastical Commissioners are lords of the manor. There is a colliery. Westerton Folly is an ancient landmark and beacon.
