Historical Description
Grindon, a township and a parish in Durham. The township lies near the Clarence railway, half a mile NNE of Carlton railway station, and 4 NNW of Stockton-on-Tees. The parish contains also Thorpe Thewles, and comprises 3511 acres; population, 400. Post town, Stockton. The manor belongs to the Marquis of Londonderry, whose seat is Wynyard Park, with an area of about 2500 acres. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Durham; net value, £304: with residence. Patron, the Marquis of Londonderry. The church, which was rebuilt in 1886, is a building in the Early English style.
