Grant of Arms to Henry Broad of Chiswick
To all and singular unto whome these p'sents shall come Edward Bysshe Esqr Garter principall Kinge of Armes of Englishmen sendeth Greetinge Know ye that forasmuch as it hath beene an auncient custome and soe contind in all countreys and Comonweales well governed that the honorable actions and vertuous endeavours of worthy men have from time to time beene remembred and recommended to posterity by certain tokens and remembrances of honnour comonly called armes being the outward demonstrations ot their inward vertues inciting others by their examples to the imitation of their laudable workes and worthy atchievements dureinge this transitorie life which said tokens of Honor are diversly distributed according to the qualities of the partyes soe meritinge the same to the end that such as have done comendable service to their Prince or Countrey either in Warre or Peace may therefore both receyve due Honor and estimation in this life and derive and convey the same to their offspring and posterity forever In which respect whereas Henry Broad of Chiswick in the County of Middlesex Esq. the sone of Arthur Broad of Caldwell in the county of Yorke is of good birth and doth not knowe what armes his auncestors have borne hath therefore desired me to declare and assigne unto him such armes as he and his posterity may lawfully beare without prejudice to any I have thought fitt to declare and assigne unto him the armes hereafter mentioned vizt. Gueules a chevron or betweene three leopards' heads argent crowned of the second and for a Creast on a Helmett befittinge his degree on a Chapewe azure lined ermine a Leopard's head coupe argent crowned or mantled gueules doubled argent as in the margent more lively is depicted the which Armes and Creast as before is expressed I the said Edward Bysshe Garter principall Kinge of Armes of Englishmen by the authority anexed unto the office of Garter by the statutes of the Most Noble Order of the Garter continued practise and the letters patents of my office made unto me under the great seale of England Do by these p'sents declare assigne give grant and confirme unto the aforesaid Henry Broad and to the yssue of his body lawfully begotten to be by them and every of them borne with their due differences accordinge to the lawe of Armes forever In witnesse whereof I have unto these p'sents affixed the seale of my office and subscribed my name the 27 of June in the 13 yeare of the reigne of our Soueraigne Lord Charles by the Grace of God King of England Scotland France and Ireland defender of the faith &c.
