Boston, Berwickshire

Historical Description

BOSTON, for a time a quoad sacra parish, in the parish of Dunse, county of Berwick; containing 1223 inhabitants. This parish forms part of the town of Dunse, and derived its name from Thomas Boston, a theological writer, who was born here in 1676. It was separated in the year 1839, on the erection of a church, and was in the presbytery of Dunse, synod of Merse and Teviotdale; the minister was elected by the managers and male communicants. The children of Boston are eligible to the parochial school of Dunse.
